The Peculiarities of Perception – Third Aroma in The Aroma of Language Yes you got that right again …I am talking about Perception in this Aroma. Why Perception?? Don’t be in such a hurry let me explain. This has its roots in the online CAT/CSAT Class of www.mindworkzz.com that I was teaching. The chapter was Fill in the blanks.. Aah apologies!!! In Sentence Completion[ I beg your pardon..I am old school and still prefer the Fill in the blanks name 😉 Hmm ..so as I said , I was teaching this chapter and the students were getting confused between the options. There was a lot of randomness in their answers and that got me thinking ..WHY?? The answer was LACK OF PERCEPTION …!!!! So what is perception and why is it so important that I have dragged you out of your cozy corners to read about it??? We commonly confuse perception with the power of sight, sound touch..etc. Actually perception just […]
Aroma of language (Second) So here is the second in my series of Aroma of Language… You must be thinking I took a long time in writing a sequel to the 1st one. Yes …actually everyone needs a ‘muse’ ..i.e an inspiration or an objective to do anything…and here I was searching for my muse for the next aroma….and as I had to travel I was also trying to get ready for that… In the midst of all that I suddenly found the book I was reading during my last journey…It was a book written by Paulo Coelho….. Yes you are right ,the author of the famous book ‘The Alchemist’ and many more. Suddenly I had my muse – my inspiration for this sequel. Yes you guessed it right..Reading !!! So my Aroma for today is related to reading…. Oh no!!!!..Is that your reaction?? Hmmm…lets make it a little more relevant… Why is READING IMPORTANT ?? Also why should we focus on […]
For a lot of people, this section is the one insurmountable area in the CAT exam. It is estimated that close to 30-40% of the test takers are unable to crack the CAT exam because of their inability to crack this section. Needless to say, this is one of the critical elements of the CAT exam (and indeed for most other management entrance and aptitude examinations). Two pronged preparation: Preparing to do well in VA & RC would mean essentially two major thrusts. Improving your ability to read and understand language. Improving your ability to solve specific question types. The first objective above, obviously is a longer term objective- and hence would require you to put more effort. The minimum time frame in which you would start to see any significant change for improving your ability to comprehend language would be between 6 months to 12 months of extensive work. Once you have your language understanding and comprehension in place, the […]

CAT Guru Arun Sharma, IIM Bangalore alumnus and renowned author for McGraw Hill Publication speaks about the difference of doing MBA from a top B school like the IIM’s or a handful of 5-6 institutes like MDI, XLRI, SPJAIN etc. versus trying to do an MBA from a normal college. The first thing you should realize is that an MBA typically will be the last qualification you will have in your life unless you plan to change your career tracks to something like that later in your career, but for most people, MBA will be the last step of their educational career, after that professional career starts and hence it is the one last opportunity to change the kind of educational profile that you have. Top B School vs. Normal MBA College You might have come from any normal school/ college and if, you have a tag of an IIM attached to your name at the end of your educational career […]

Hi everyone! So the dust has finally settled on CAT 2018 and in many ways 25th November 2018 turned out to be a watershed date in the history of the CAT. In this series of articles I will take a look at a description of the sections in the CAT 2018 test paper and then at what it means for CAT 2019 preparation. In today’s article I am focusing on the Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension section of the exam. Section 1: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension: As usual the structure of the section did not change. 24 questions of Reading Comprehension, 4 questions on Para jumbles (without options), 3 questions on Paragraph Summary, 3 questions on Odd Man out (finding the sentence that doesn’t belong in a jumbled paragraph). If anything, the only change in the structure of the exam was in terms of how many questions there were per reading comprehension passage. While the Reading Comprehension in CAT 2017 […]
